South Korea-based SK Hynix, the world's leading semiconductor manufacturer, held the opening ceremony of its public welfare foundationin Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) on Aug 18, Wuxi Daily reported.
It is the first charitable foundation by an overseas-invested enterprisein Wuxi. Wuxi mayor Wang Quan and Park Sung-wook, CEO of SK Hynix, attended the ceremony.
The foundation has been operation since February this year, funded entirelyby SK Hynix Semiconductor Company (China) located in WND. SK Hynix decided to invest 5.5 million yuan ($82,840) into the foundation every year, for public-benefit projects, like medical and health services, poverty alleviation and disaster relief.
Wang spoke highly of SK Hynix's sense of social responsibility, and the said the company served as a good example to other enterprises in Wuxi. He promised that the Wuxi government will support the foundation's activities. He also expressed his hopes that SK Hynix and Wuxi cooperate further in semiconductor manufacturing to contribute towardsthe transformation and upgrading of the local economy.
Park expressed his appreciation to the Wuxi government and agreed with Wang that SK Hynix and Wuxi will have a closer relationship through the foundation, and further cooperate in the industrial field.
