Wuxi Sunan International Airport and China Eastern Airlines Jiangsu signed a cooperation framework agreement for further their development in the civil aviation industry on Aug 24, Wuxi Daily reported.
According to the agreement, China Eastern will increase its fleet of planes which operate out of Wuxi during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).
The airline said that it will open or increase more than three new flights annually. The Wuxi government has said that it will give full support for the operation of new flights, including helping with employee recruitment and the arranging of flight schedules.
China Eastern set up a base in Wuxi in 2013, and over the past three years it flight capacity at Wuxi Airport has doubled. In the first half of 2016, the airline added 11 aircraft to its fleet in Wuxi, carried over 1 million passengers and recruited more than 150 pilots and flight attendants.
Wuxi mayor Wang Quan attended the signing ceremony, and met with Liu Gang, general manager of China Eastern Jiangsu.
Wang expressed his hope that the agreement will bring about a new phase of cooperation between both parties. "China Eastern will upgrade its service and help motivate Wuxi's aviation industry. Wuxi will provide better government services to support China Eastern's growth in air capacity and air routes," Wang said.
Liu agreed and said that China Eastern will deepen its cooperation with the Wuxi government.
