Fans of American science fiction thriller television series Westworld will get the chance to experience as close as modern technology can get to creating a complete virtual and immersive world – albeit a whole lot safer one.

The city of Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 3 to start the construction of a cutting-edge VR experience town costing 20 billion yuan ($3 billion).
Covering a planning area of about 1.6 million sq m, the town named Merman will be located at the Taihu National Tourist Resort of Mashan, and made up of five live-action zones, a comprehensive commercial culture area and a digital entertainment technology industry park.
Visitors will be able to explore the most advanced VR technology, watch movies like never before using the tactile sensory D-Box cinema, enjoy stage plays, and experience thrills and spills on water rides.
Role play game lovers will be spoiled rotten with the ability to customize missions upon entry, including various sets of clothes, props and accommodation provided. Games at the park, which will be connect by a light rail service, will include, island survival, hunting in a rain forest, and mining in a volcano.
Those too young to play the games can explore the 48,000-sq-m stage area and the 71,200-sq-m commercial plaza. The latest in sound and lighting technology will be used to ensure all performances are cutting edge.
The digital industry park, where all the stunning technologies in the town will be produced, will also develop digital technology for filming, medical and education services based on VR, AR (artificial reality) and MR (mized reality) tech. Video game training sessions and e-sports competitions will also be held regularly.According to JC Group, the project investor, the town will boast an annual capacity for 8 million people. It is estimated to be completed in 2021.
